       HIJAB

"O you believe! Enter not the prophets house until permission is given to you for a meal,(and then) not(so early as) to wait for it's preperation; but when you are invited, enter; and when you have taken your meal, disperse without seeking vain talk. Such behaviour annoys the prophet; he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed to tell you the truth. And when you ask the prophets wives for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen (Hijab); that makes for greater purity for your hearts and theirs. Nor is it right for you to annoy Allah's messenger, or that you should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity." (surah ahzab53)

This verse tells us to etiquettes for an Islamic way of life, Hijab for women and how to behave upon being invited into some ones home. These days the word Hijab has been translated to mean headscarf. This is wrong, Hijab means screen, curtain partition, in other words 'something that covers and conceals completely. It was this verse (surah ahzab 53) that made Hijab Fard, before this women were not required to wear Hijab.

The following Ayah also indicates the necessity of Hijab:

"O prophet! Tell your wives and daughters, and believing women that they should cast (Yudnina 'Alaihinna) their outer garments (Jalabib) over them; so that it is likelier that they will be known and not harmed; and Allah is All-forgiving, Most merciful."(Surah Ahzab 59)

Jalabib is the plural of Jalbab, Jalbab is an outer wrap sheet or even blanket something that covers head to toe.Yudnina 'Alaihinna , the root word Adna means to bring something closer and as Ala has been added it is taken to mean closer to you so Alaihinna points to the fact the term means to cover themselves head to foot, some scholars say, covering the face but some say not covering the face. However Ibn Abbas described Jalbab like this 'Allah commanded Muslim women to pull this sheet on top of them to cover their bodies except one eye, when it is necessary for them to come out of their house.

             WHY WOMEN SHOULD VEIL

"Aisha reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr came to the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands."

THIS HADITH IS WEAK!

I have Finally found the proof of how it is weak. It is in the book "Al-Hijab" by Shaikh Muhamman Bin Saleh Bin Uthaimin ( who is one of the biggest Ullima alive today). Anyway in the book on page number #17 and 18 he mentions this hadith and how it is weak...

1. The Hadith is narrated from Khalid Bin Dareek, who narrated the hadith from Aisha, when the Muhadith found NO LINK BETWEEN Aisha (RAA) and Khalid Bin Dareek, so the chain of narrators is interrupted! Making the hadith weak.

2. The chain of narrators also contains Sa'eed Bin Basheer who is known by all the muhadith to be a weak narrator (This view was quoted from Imaan Ahmed Bin Hanbal, Ibn Ma'een, Nasai and Ibn Madeeni).

With these in mind we have to understand we cannot use weak hadith on the issue against MANY strong hadith from Bukhari and Muslim on the Niqaab.

And it is also quoted on page # 9 of the book that Ibn Abbas (RAA) said " Allah (swt) has commanded the believing women that if they must emerge from their houses because of necessity they must cover everything but one eye to see the way." This veiw was also held by Aisha (RAA), Umme Salamh (RAA) and Abu Ubaidah (RAA) and Ibn Masood (RAA)!
