Sahih Bukhari:Volume 5, Book 57, Number 113:
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari:

Allah's Apostle said, "Many amongst men attained perfection but amongst women none attained the perfection except Mary, the daughter of Imran and Asiya, the wife of Pharaoh. And the superiority of 'Aisha to other women is like the superiority of Tharid (i.e. an Arabic dish) to other meals."

Hadhrat Bareedah (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The subject of pledge which exists between the people and us (the Ambiyaa) is Salaat. Thus, whoever neglects Salaat has become a kaafir (i.e. in terms of practical life, not in terms of Imaan)."

If you guarantee me six things on your part, I shall guarantee you paradise: speak the truth when you talk, keep a promise when you make it, when you are trusted with something fulfil your trust, avoid sexual immorality, lower your eyes and restrain your hand from injustice.

Hadhrat Jaabir (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The distinguishing factor between kufr and Imaan is the deliberate neglect of Salaat."

Hadrhat Abdulah Ibn Qart (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The first act about which one will be questioned on the Day of Qiyammah will be Salaat. If Salaat is found to be proper, other acts will pass as proper. But, if Salaat is found there to be despoiled, then all other acts too will fail."

Sneezing

Hadith - Bukhari 2.331, Narrated Al Bara bin Azib, r.a.

Allah's Apostle May Allah's peace and praise be on him ordered us to do seven things and forbade us to do other seven. He ordered us: to follow the funeral procession, to visit the sick, to accept invitations, to help the oppressed, to fulfill the oaths, to return the greeting and to reply to the sneezer (saying, "May Allah be merciful on you," provided the sneezer says, "All the praises are for Allah,"). He forbade us to use silver utensils and dishes and to wear golden rings, silk (clothes), Dibaj (pure silk cloth), Qissi and Istabraq (two kinds of silk cloths).

Hadith - Bukhari 2.332, Narrated Abu Huraira, r.a.

I heard Allah's Apostle May Allah's peace and praise be on him saying, "The rights of a Muslim on the Muslims are to follow the funeral processions, to accept invitation and to reply the sneezer."

Hadith - Malik's Muwatta Book 54, Number 54.2.4

Malik related to me from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr from his father that the Messenger of Allah May Allah's peace and praise be on him said, "If a man sneezes, invoke a blessing on him. Then if he sneezes, invoke a blessing on him. Then if he sneezes, invoke a blessing on him. Then if he sneezes, say, 'You have a cold'." Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr said, "I don't know whether it was after the third or fourth."

Hadith - Bukhari 8.240, Narrated Anas bin Malik, r.a.

Two men sneezed before the Prophet May Allah's peace and praise be on him. The Prophet May Allah's peace and praise be on himsaid to one of them, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on you," but he did not say that to the other. On being asked (why), the Prophet May Allah's peace and praise be on him said, "That one praised Allah (at the time of sneezing), while the other did not praise Allah."

Hadith - Bukhari 8.240, Narrated Anas bin Malik

The Prophet May Allah's peace and praise be on him said, "Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning, so if someone sneezes and then praises Allah, then it is obligatory on every Muslim who heard him, to say: May Allah be merciful to you (Yar-hamuka-l-lah). But as regards yawning, it is from Satan, so one must try one's best to stop it, if one says 'Ha' when yawning, Satan will laugh at him."

 Hadith - Malik's Muwatta Book 54, Number 54.2.5

Malik related to me from Nafi that when Abdullah ibn Umar sneezed and someone said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you," (Yarhamuka'llah), he said, "May Allah have mercy on us and you, and forgive us and you." (Yarhamuna'llah wa yaghfirlana wa lakum).

  • When you sneeze, say "Alhamdulilah".
  • When you hear someone else sneeze AND they say "Alahamdulilah," you reply "yarhamuka'Allah".

Qur'an & Hadith on Dhikr

"Therefore, remember Me; I will remember you. Give thanks to Me and reject Me not."
[Al-Baqarah 2:152]

"Rasulullah (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said, "The world and all its contents are cursed and devoid of Allah's mercy, except for three things:
(1) the dhikr, or remembrance, of Allah (and all other worships near it),
(2) the religious (and truthful) alim, and
(3) the student, who is a seeker of religious knowledge."

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said, "Those who are admitted in to Paradise will not repent over anything of this world, except the time spend without dhikr in their lives."

"Shall I tell you something that is the best of all deeds, constitutes the best act of piety in the eyes of your Lord, will elevate your status in the Hereafter, and carries more virtue than the spending of gold and silver in the service of Allah or taking part in jihad or slaying or being slain in the path of Allah?"
The companions (radiyallahu anhum) begged to know, whereupon the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) replied, "It is the dhikr of Allah, the Almighty."

And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him."

He is One and He has no partner with Him; His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent),' he will have a reward equivalent to that for emancipating ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be recorded to his credit, hundred of his sins will be blotted out from his scroll, and he will be safeguarded against the devil on that day till the evening; and no one will exceed him in doing more excellent good deeds except someone who has recited these words more often than him. And he who utters: `Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi (Allah is free from imperfection and His is the praise)' one hundred times a day, his sins will be obliterated even if they are equal to the extent of the foam of the ocean."

They replied: "They offer Salat (prayer) as we offer it; they observe fast as we do; (and as they are wealthy) they perform Hajj and `Umrah, and go for Jihad, and they spend in charity but we cannot, and they free the slaves but we are unable to do so." The Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wa salam) said, "Shall I not teach you something with which you may overtake those who surpassed you and with which you will surpass those who will come after you? None will excel you unless he who does which you do." They said: "Yes, please do, O Messenger of Allah" He (salAllahu alayhi wa salam) said, "You should recite: Tasbih (Allah is free from imperfection), Takbir (Allah is Greatest), Tahmid (Praise be to Allah) thirty-three times after each Salat."

Surah Al-Hadid (57) Ayahs 1-3

Whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the All-Mighty, All-Wise.

His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, It is He Who gives
life and causes death; and He is Able to do all things.

He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him). And He is the All-Knower of every thing.

Pride

Hadith - Sahih Muslim #131, narrated 'Abd-Allah ibn Mas'ood

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “No one will enter Paradise who has an atom’s-weight of pride in his heart.” A man said, “What if a man likes his clothes to look good and his shoes to look good?” He said, “Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. Pride means denying the truth and looking down on people.”

Lying

Writings of scholars of the past - Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah, Majmoo'at-ur-Rasaa'il wal-Masaa'il (5/105)

"Lying against an individual is completely forbidden, regardless if he is a Muslim, a disbeliever or an evil sinner. However, fabricating a lie against a believer is more severe. In spite of all forms of lying on someone is forbidden, it is allowable during times of a legitimate necessity."

Two prostrations before giving salutations

Narrated by AbuSa'id al-Khudri(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said: When any one
of you is in doubt about his prayer and he does not know how much he
has prayed, three or four (rak'ahs), he should cast aside his doubt
and base his prayer on what he is sure of, then perform two
prostrations before giving salutations. If he has prayed five
rak'ahs, they will make his prayer an even number for him, and if he
has prayed exactly four, they will be humiliation for the devil.

Sahih Muslim Number 1166

Mosques for prayers only

Narrated by Abu Hurairah(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said: If anyone hears a man crying out in the mosque about something he has lost, he should say: May Allah not restore it to you, for the mosques were not built for this.

Sahih Muslim Number 1153

Don't pass before him if he is praying

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said: When any one of you prays, he should not allow anyone to pass before him, and if he refuses, he should be then forcibly resisted, for there is a devil with him.

Sahih Muslim Number 1025

Superiority over the other prophets in six respects

Narrated by Abu Huraira(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said: I have been given superiority over the other prophets in six respects: I have been given words which are concise but comprehensive in meaning; I have been helped by terror (in the hearts of enemies): spoils have been made lawful to me; the earth has been made for me clean and a place of worship; I have been sent to all mankind; and the line of prophets is closed with me.

Sahih Muslim Number 1062

Hadith

Abu Huraira reported: One day the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) appeared before the public that a man came to him and said: Prophet of Allah, (tell me) what is Eman. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His meeting, His Messengers and that you affirm your faith in the Resurrection hereafter. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, (tell me) what does al-Islam signify. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Al-Islam signifies that you worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him and you establish obligatory prayer and you pay the obligatory poor-rate (Zakat) and you observe the fast of Ramadan. He (the inquirer) again said: Messenger of Allah, what does al-Ihsan imply ? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, and in case you fail to see Him, then observe prayer (with this idea in your mind) that (at least) He is seeing you. He (the inquirer ) again said: Messenger of Allah, when would there be the hour (of Doom) ? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer. I, however, narrate some of its signs (and these are): when the slave-girl will give birth to he master, when the naked, barefooted would become the chiefs of the people - these are some of the signs of (Doom). (Moreover) when the shepherds of the black (camels) would exult themselves in buildings, this is one of the signs of (Doom). (Doom) is one of the five (happenings wrapped in the unseen) which no one knows but Allah. Then he (the Messenger of Allah) recited (the verse) : "Verily Allah! with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends (down the rain) and knows that which is in the wombs and no person knows whatsoever he shall earn tomorrow, and a person knows not in whatsoever land he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing, Aware . He

(the narrator, Abu Huraira) said: Then the person turned back and went away. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Bring that man back to me. They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet present there) went to bring him back, but they saw nothing there. Upon this the Messenger of Allah remarked : he was Gabriel, who came to teach the people their religion.

DIVINE REWARD FOR GREETING

Imraan Ibne Husayn radhiyallahu anhu  relates that once a person came to the Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam and said, 'Assalaamu' Alaykum." The Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam  returned the greeting, and when the man had sat down, he said, "Ten." (i.e. ten good deeds have been written in his name owing to this salaam.) After him, another person came and said, "Assalaamu'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi." The Apostle of
Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam returned the greeting, and when the man sat down, he said, "Twenty." Then, another man came and said, "Assalaamu'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh." The Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam returned his greeting and when the man had sat down, said, "Thirty."

Tirmizi, Aboo Daawood

COMMENTARY:
The Almighty, through His Infinite Benevolence, prescribed for the Believers ten good deeds for every good action performed by them. It is stated in the Qur'aan,
"Who so brings a good deed will receive tenfold the like thereof." (6:160)
It was for this reason that the Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam  remarked about the person who had said Assalaamu’alaykum , alone, that he was going to get the reward of ten good deeds, and about the person who had added the words, wa Rahmatullahi, that he was going to get the reward of twenty good deeds, and about the third one who had added wa Barakaatuhu, that he was going to get the reward of thirty good deeds. He who replied to the greeting will be entitled to the reward in the same order.

Imaam Maalik Rahmatullahi Alayh has narrated from Tufayl, son of Ubayi Ibne Ka'b, that, "I used to visit Abdullah Ibne Umar radhiyallahu anhumaa (often). His habit was that he took me with him to the market and offered salaam to every shopkeeper, second hand dealer and poor person he met in the way (and, then, returned home without buying anything). One day, as I went with him, he, as usual, wanted me to accompany him to the market. I said, 'What will you do there You neither stop at a shop nor buy anything nor even enquire about its price nor sit with anyone (What is the use of going to the market)? Let us sit here and talk. It will be more beneficial to me. Abdullah Ibne Umar radhiyallahu anhumaa replied, 'I go to the market solely for the purpose of making salaam to whomsoever I see."

It is related by Aboo Umaamah radhiyallahu anhu  that the Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam  said,

"He is more deserving of the Mercy and Nearness of Allah  among the people who is the first to initiate the salaam."

Ahmad, Tirmizi, Aboo Daawood

Abdullah Ibne Mas'ood radhiyallahu anhu  relates that he heard the Apostle of Allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam  say,

"He who is the first to greet is free from pride."

Bayhaqi

COMMENTARY:
It shows that to take precedence in making salaam is a sign of being free from vanity. It can, also, mean that it is a cure for pride which is a great sin

 THE ROAD TO DUBAI
By Um Yaqoob

On the road to Dubai, my husband stopped at a small masjid to make the
asr prayer.  As I sat in the car, I saw a figure approaching from
the direction of a small group of houses.  It took some time before
I realized it was a man, crawling toward the masjid.

He wore rubber sandals on his hands.  His lower body dragged on
the hard, rocky ground.  The 110-degree temperatures had beaten sweat
out of his entire body. By the time he reached the masjid courtyard I
could see he was soaked and his face was flushed.

Many men passed him on their way to the prayer, perhaps accustomed
to seeing him.  One man came out of a shop and watched him for awhile.
He went back into the shop and came out with a cold drink.  He opened
it for the crawling man and they sat together for a minute.  I heard
them talking, the one man offering to help the man and the other
insisting he could make it up the stairs to the masjid.  He was
concerned about making it on time, so he excused himself and continued
his slow, labored journey to the prayer.

I did not watch him as he mounted the stairs.  I could not imagine
how to help him.  I was crying by then, remembering the hadith of
the Prophet (pbuh):  "The hypocrites find fajr and isha prayers in
congregation very oppressive.  If they could know the virtues of these
two prayers, they would certainly join them, even if they had to go
crawling."  (Bukhari, Muslim)

This man, who literally did crawl even in the heat of the day,
did not find the congregational prayer oppressive at all. May Allah
reward all who struggle to please Him and may He always remind us of our
own weaknesses through such people.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection:

Where are those who love one another through My glory? Today I shall give them shade in My shade, it being a day when there is no shade but My shade.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Malik).

Narrated 'Abdullah:

Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) said, "Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases:

(1) A man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously.
(2) A man whom Allah has given wisdom (knowledge of the Quran and the Hadith) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others."

[Sahih Bukhari Volume 9, Book 89, Number 255]

 Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostlen (p.b.u.h) said, "Not to wish to be the like of except the like of two men: a man whom Allah has given the Qur'an and he recites it during the hours of the night and the hours of the day, in which case one may say, "If I were given the same as this man has been given, I would do the same as he is doing.' The other is a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, in which case one may say, 'If I were given the same as he has been given, I would do the same as he is doing."

Sahih Bukhari:Volume 5, Book 57, Number 117:
Narrated 'Aisha:

That she borrowed a necklace from Asma' and it was lost. Allah's Apostle sent some of his companions to look for it. During their journey the time of prayer was due and they prayed without ablution. When they returned to the Prophet they complained about it. So the Divine Verse of Tayammum was revealed. Usaid bin Hudair said (to 'Aisha), "May Allah reward you handsomely. By Allah, whenever you have a difficulty, Allah took you out of it and brought with it, a Blessing for the Muslims."

Sahih Bukhari:Volume 5, Book 57, Number 85:
Narrated 'Alqama:

I went to Sham and offered a two-Rak'at prayer and then said, "O Allah! Bless me with a good pious companion." So I went to some people and sat with them. An old man came and sat by my side. I asked, "Who is he?" They replied, "(He is) Abu-Ad-Darda.' I said (to him), "I prayed to Allah to bless me with a pious companion and He sent you to me." He asked me, "From where are you?" I replied, "From the people of Al-Kufa." He said, "Isn't there amongst you Ibn Um 'Abd, the one who used to carry the shoes, the cushion(or pillow) and the water for ablution? Is there amongst you the one whom Allah gave Refuge from Satan through the request of His Prophet. Is there amongst you the one who keeps the secrets of the Prophet which nobody knows except him?" Abu Darda further asked, "How does 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) recite the Sura starting with, 'By the Night as it conceals (the light)." (92.1) Then I recited before him:
'By the Night as it envelops: And by the Day as it appears in brightness; And by male and female.' (91.1-3) On this Abu Ad-Darda' said, "By Allah, the Prophet made me recite the Sura in this way while I was listening to him (reciting it)."
Sahih Bukhari:Volume 7, Book 62, Number 3:
Narrated 'Alqama:

While I was with Abdullah, 'Uthman met him at Mina and said, "O Abu 'Abdur-Rahman ! I have something to say to you." So both of them went aside and 'Uthman said, "O Abu 'Abdur-Rah. man! Shall we marry you to a virgin who will make you remember your past days?" When 'Abdullah felt that he was not in need of that, he beckoned me (to join him) saying, "O 'Alqama!" Then I heard him saying (in reply to 'Uthman), "As you have said that, (I tell you that) the Prophet once said to us, 'O young people! Whoever among you is able to marry, should marry, and whoever is not able to marry, is recommended to fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.

Sahih Bukhari:Volume 7, Book 62, Number 2:
Narrated 'Ursa:

that he asked 'Aisha about the Statement of Allah: 'If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (the captives) that your right hands possess. That will be nearer to prevent you from doing injustice.' (4.3) 'Aisha said, "O my nephew! (This Verse has been revealed in connection with) an orphan girl under the guardianship of her guardian who is attracted by her wealth and beauty and intends to marry her with a Mahr less than what other women of her standard deserve. So they (such guardians) have been forbidden to marry them unless they do justice to them and give them their full Mahr, and they are ordered to marry other women instead of them."

" The non-arabs would prevent them." (Muslim 2913)

2. Abu Huraira reported that Allah's Messenger (SAW) said:

"The Last Hour  will not come before the Euphrates (a river which flows through Iraq) uncovers a mountain of gold, for which people would fight. 99out of  each 100 would die but every man amongst them would say that perhaps he would be the one who would be saved (survive, thus possess this gold).
