Hadith Qudsi 21:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah the Almighty said:

‘There are three (1) whose adversary I shall be on the Day of Resurrection: a man who has given his word by Me and has broken it; a man who has sold a free man (2) and has consumed the price; and a man who has hired a workman, has exacted his due in full from him and has not given him his wage.’"

(1) i.e. types of men.

(2) i.e. a man who has made a slave of another and has sold him.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Ibn Majah and Ahmad ibn Hanbal).

Hadith Qudsi 22:

On the authority of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Let not any one of you belittle himself." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, how can any one of us belittle himself?" He said: "He finds a matter concerning Allah about which he should say something, and he does not say [it], so Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says to him on the Day of Resurrection: ‘What prevented you from saying something about such-and-such and such-and-such?’ He will say: ‘It was] out of fear of people.’ Then He says: ‘Rather it is I whom you should more properly fear.’"

It was related by Ibn Majah with a sound chain of authorities.

Hadith Qudsi 23:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection:

‘Where are those who love one another through My glory? Today I shall give them shade in My shade, it being a day when there is no shade but My shade.’"

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Malik).

Hadith Qudsi 24:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"If Allah has loved a servant [of His], He calls Gabriel (on whom be peace) and says: ‘I love So-and-so, therefore love him.’" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "So Gabriel loves him. Then he (Gabriel) calls out in heaven, saying: ‘Allah loves So-and-so, therefore love him.’ And the inhabitants of heaven love him." He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then acceptance is established for him on earth. And if Allah has abhorred a servant [of His], He calls Gabriel and says: ‘I abhor So-and-so, therefore abhor him.’ So Gabriel abhors him. Then Gabriel calls out to the inhabitants of heaven: ‘Allah abhors So-and-so, therefore abhor him.’" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "So they abhor him, and abhorrence is established for him on earth."

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, Malik, and at-Tirmidhi).

Hadith Qudsi 25:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

‘Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him.’"

It was related by al-Bukhari.

Hadith Qudsi 26:

On the authority of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

‘Truly of those devoted to Me the one I most favour is a believer who is of meager means and much given to prayer, who has been particular in the worship of his Lord and has obeyed Him inwardly (1), who was obscure among people and not pointed out, and whose sustenance was just sufficient to provide for him yet he bore this patiently.’" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) rapped his hand and said: "Death will have come early to him, his mourners will have been few, his estate scant."

(1) i.e. he has not been ostentatious in his obedience.

It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Ibn Majah). Its chain of authorities is sound.

Hadith Qudsi 27:

On the authority of Masruq (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

We asked Abdullah (i.e. Ibn Masud) about this verse: "And do not regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead, rather are they alive with their Lord, being provided for (Qur’an Chapter 3 Verse 169)." He said: "We asked about that and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Their souls are in the insides of green birds having lanterns suspended from the Throne, roaming freely in Paradise where they please, then taking shelter in those lanterns. So their Lord cast a glance at them (1) and said: ‘Do you wish for anything?’ They said: ‘What shall we wish for when we roam freely in Paradise where we please?’ And thus did He do to them three times. When they say that they would not be spared from being asked [again], they said: ‘O Lord, we would like for You to put back our souls into our bodies so that we might fight for Your sake once again. And when He saw that they were not in need of anything they were let be.’"

(1) i.e. at those who had been killed in the cause of Allah.

It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 28:

On the authority of Jundub ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"There was amongst those before you a man who had a wound. He was in [such] anguish that he took a knife and made with it a cut in his hand, and the blood did not cease to flow till he died. Allah the Almighty said: ‘My servant has himself forestalled Me; I have forbidden him Paradise.’"

It was related by al-Bukhari.

Hadith Qudsi 29:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

‘My faithful servant's reward from Me, if I have taken to Me his best friend from amongst the inhabitants of the world and he has then borne it patiently for My sake, shall be nothing less than Paradise.’"

It was related by al-Bukhari.

Hadith Qudsi 30:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

‘If My servant likes to meet Me, I like to meet him; and if he dislikes to meet Me, I dislike to meet him.’"

Prophetic explanation of this Sacred Hadith: ‘He who likes to meet Allah, Allah likes to meet him; and he who dislikes to meet Allah, Allah dislikes to meet him:’

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Prophet of Allah, is it because of the dislike of death, for all of us dislike death?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is not so, but rather it is that when the believer is given news of Allah's mercy, His approval and His Paradise, he likes to meet Allah and Allah likes to meet him; but when the unbeliever is given news of Allah's punishment and His displeasure, he dislikes to meet Allah and Allah dislikes to meet him."

It was related by al-Bukhari and Malik. The Prophetic version is related by Muslim.

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 652:
Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "(There are) two words which are dear to the Beneficent (Allah) and very light (easy) for the tongue (to say), but very heavy in weight in the balance. They are: 'Subhan Allah wa-bi hamdihi' and 'Subhan Allah Al-'Azim."

Merciful to mankind

Narrated by Jarrir bin Abdullah(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said "Allah will not be
merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 473

Gardens of Paradise

Narrated by Abu Huraira(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said "Between my house and my pulpit there is a garden from one of the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is over my Lake-Tank (Kauthar)."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 435

Narrated by Jarrir bin Abdullah(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said "Allah will not be
merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 473

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 93, Number 609:
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:

The Prophet said, "Allah will say to the people of Paradise, "O the people of Paradise!" They will say, 'Labbaik, O our Lord, and Sa'daik, and all the good is in Your Hands!' Allah will say, "Are you satisfied?' They will say, 'Why shouldn't we be satisfied, O our Lord as You have given us what You have not given to any of Your created beings?' He will say, 'Shall I not give you something better than that?' They will say, 'O our Lord! What else could be better than that?' He will say, 'I bestow My Pleasure on you and will never be angry with you after that.' "

Hadith Collection

Hadith Qudsi 1:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in His book which is laid down with Him: ‘My mercy prevails over my wrath.’"

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 2:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah Almighty has said:

‘The son of Adam denied Me and he had no right to do so. And he reviled Me and he had no right to do so. As for his denying Me, it is his saying: ‘He will not remake me as He made me at first’ (1) - and the initial creation [of him] is no easier for Me than remaking him. As for his reviling Me, it is his saying: ‘Allah has taken to Himself a son,’ while I am the One, the Everlasting Refuge. I begot not nor was I begotten, and there is none comparable to Me.’"

(1) i.e., bring me back to life after death.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by an-Nasa'i).

Hadith Qudsi 3:

On the authority of Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhaniyy (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

The Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led the morning prayer for us at al-Hudaybiyah following rainfall during the night. When the Prophet (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) finished, he faced the people and said to them: "Do you know what your Lord has said?" They said: "Allah and his Messenger know best." He said: "‘This morning one of my servants became a believer in Me and one a disbeliever. As for him who said: ‘We have been given rain by virtue of Allah and His mercy,’ that one is a believer in Me, a disbeliever in the stars (2); and as for him who said: ‘We have been given rain by such-and-such a star,’ that one is a disbeliever in Me, a believer in the stars.’"

(2) The pre-Islamic Arabs believed that rain was brought about by the movement of stars. This Hadith draws attention to the fact that whatever be the direct cause of such natural phenomena as rain, it is Allah the Almighty who is the Disposer of all things.

It is related by al-Bukhari (also by Malik and an-Nasa'i).

Hadith Qudsi 4:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah said:

‘Sons of Adam inveigh against [the vicissitudes of] Time, and I am Time, in My hand is the night and the day.’" (1)

(1) As the Almighty is the Ordainer of all things, to inveigh against misfortunes that are part of Time is tantamount to inveighing against Him.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim).

Hadith Qudsi 5:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (glorified and exalted be He) said:

‘I am so self-sufficient that I am in no need of having an associate. Thus he who does an action for someone else's sake as well as Mine will have that action renounced by Me to him whom he associated with Me."

It was related by Muslim (also by Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 6:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:

"The first of people against whom judgment will be pronounced on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who died a martyr. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: ‘And what did you do about them?’ He will say: ‘I fought for You until I died a martyr.’ He will say: ‘You have lied - you did but fight that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is courageous.’’ And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. [Another] will be a man who has studied [religious] knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Qur’an. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: ‘And what did you do about them?’ He will say: ‘I studied [religious] knowledge and I taught it and I recited the Qur’an for Your sake.’ He will say: ‘You have lied - you did but study [religious] knowledge that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is learned.’’ And you recited the Qur’an that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is a reciter.’ And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire. [Another] will be a man whom Allah had made rich and to whom He had given all kinds of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His favours and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: ‘And what did you do about them?’ He will say: ‘I left no path [untrodden] in which You like money to be spent without spending in it for Your sake.’ He will say: ‘You have lied - you did but do so that it might be said [of you]: ‘He is open-handed.’’ And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire."

It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi and an-Nasa'i).

Hadith Qudsi 7:

On the authority of Uqbah ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:

"Your Lord delights at a shepherd who, on the peak of a mountain crag, gives the call to prayer and prays. Then Allah (glorified and exalted be He) will say: ‘Look at this servant of Mine, he gives the call to prayer and performs the prayers; he is in awe of Me. I have forgiven My servant [his sins] and have admitted him to Paradise.’"

It was related by an-Nasa'i with a good chain of authorities.

Hadith Qudsi 8:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:

"A prayer performed by someone who has not recited the Essence of the Qur’an (1) during it is deficient (and he repeated the word three times), incomplete."

Someone said to Abu Hurayrah: [Even though] we are behind the imam? (2)

He said: Recite it to yourself, for I have heard the Prophet (may the blessings and peace of Allah be up on him) say:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He), had said: ‘I have divided prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for. When the servant says: ‘Al-hamdu lillahi rabbi l-alamin’ (3), Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: ‘My servant has praised Me.’ And when he says: ‘Ar-rahmani r-rahim’ (4), Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: ‘My servant has extolled Me,’ and when he says: ‘Maliki yawmi d-din’ (5), Allah says: ‘My servant has glorified Me’ - and on one occasion He said: ‘My servant has submitted to My power.’ And when he says: ‘Iyyaka na budu wa iyyaka nasta in’ (6), He says: ‘This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.’ And when he says: ‘Ihdina s-sirata l- mustaqim, siratal ladhina an amta alayhim ghayril-maghdubi alayhim wa la d-dallin’ (7), He says: ‘This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.’"

(1) Surat al-Fatihah, the first surah (chapter) of the Qur'an.

(2) i.e. standing behind the imam (leader) listening to him reciting al-Fatihah.

(3) "Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds."

(4) "The Merciful, the Compassionate."

(5) "Master of the Day of Judgement."

(6) "It is You we worship and it is You we ask for help."

(7) "Guide us to the straight path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favors, not of those against whom You are angry, nor of those who are astray."

It was related by Muslim (also by Malik, at-Tirmidhi, Abu-Dawud, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 9:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

‘The first of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers.’ If they are in order, then he will have prospered and succeeded; and if they are wanting, then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, the Lord (glorified and exalted be He) will say: ‘See if My servant has any supererogatory prayers with which may be completed that which was defective in his obligatory prayers.’ Then the rest of his actions will be judged in like fashion."

It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah and Ahmad).

Hadith Qudsi 10:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says:

‘Fasting is Mine and it is I Who give reward for it. [A man] gives up his sexual passion, his food and his drink for My sake.’ Fasting is like a shield, and he who fasts has two joys: a joy when he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. The change in the breath of the mouth of him who fasts is better in Allah's estimation than the smell of musk."

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim, Malik, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

Faith (Sahih Bukhari)

1)Allah's Apostle said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):
1.     To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's Apostle.
2.     To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly.
3.     To pay Zakat (i.e. obligatory charity) .
4.     To perform Hajj (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca).
5.     To observe fast during the month of Ramadan.

2)The Prophet said, "None of you will have faith till he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he likes for himself."

3)The Prophet said, "Love for the Ansar is a sign of faith and hatred for the Ansar is a sign of hypocrisy."

4)Whenever Allah's Apostle ordered the Muslims to do something, he used to order them deeds which were easy for them to do, (according to their strength endurance). They said, "O Allah's Apostle! We are not like you. Allah  has forgiven your past and future sins." So Allah's Apostle became angry and it was apparent on his face. He said, "I am the most Allah fearing, and know Allah better than all of you do."

SAHIH BUKHARI:Volume 9, Book 93, Number 620:
Narrated Salim's father:

The Prophet said, "Not to wish to be the like of except the like of two (persons): a man whom Allah has given the knowledge of the Quran and he recites it during the hours of the night and the hours of the day; and a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it (in Allah's Cause) during the hours of the night and during the hours of the day."

Sahih Bukhari:Volume 9, Book 93, Number 622:

Narrated 'Aisha:

Whoever tells you that the Prophet concealed something of the Divine Inspiration, do not believe him, for Allah said: 'O Apostle Muhammad! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord, and if you do it not, then you have not conveyed His Message.' (5.67)

Allah's Apostle said, "Allah will say to the people of Paradise, 'O the people of Paradise!' They will say, 'Labbaik, O our Lord, and Sa'daik!' Allah will say, 'Are you pleased?' They will say, 'Why should we not be pleased since You have given us what You have not given to anyone of Your creation?' Allah will say, 'I will give you something better than that.' They will reply, 'O our Lord! And what is better than that?' Allah will say, 'I will bestow My pleasure and contentment upon you so that I will never be angry with you after forever.' "

Hadith Qudsi 11:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

‘Spend (on charity), O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’"

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim).

Hadith Qudsi 12:

On the authority of Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

"A man from among those who were before you was called to account. Nothing in the way of good was found for him except that he used to have dealings with people and, being well-to-do, he would order his servants to let off the man in straitened circumstances [from repaying his debt]." He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that Allah said: "‘We are worthier than you of that (of being so generous). Let him off.’"

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari and an-Nasa'i).

Hadith Qudsi 13:

On the authority of Adiyy ibn Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

I was with the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and there came to him two men: one of them was complaining of penury (being very poor), while the other was complaining of brigandry (robbery). The Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "As for brigandry, it will be but a short time before a caravan will [be able to] go out of Mecca without a guard. As for penury, the Hour (Day of Judgement) will not arrive before one of you takes his charity around without finding anyone to accept it from him. Then (1) one of you will surely stand before Allah, there being no screen between Him and him, nor an interpreter to translate for him. Then He will say to him: ‘Did I not bring you wealth?’ And he will say: ‘Yes.’ Then He will say: ‘Did I not send to you a messenger?’ And he will say: ‘Yes.’ And he will look to his right and will see nothing but Hell-fire, then he will look to his left and will see nothing but Hell-fire, so let each of you protect himself against Hell-fire, be it with even half a date - and if he finds it not, then with a kind word."

(1) i.e. at the time of the Hour.

It was related by al-Bukhari.

Hadith Qudsi 14:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:

"Allah (glorified and exalted be He) has supernumerary angels who rove about seeking out gatherings in which Allah's name is being invoked: they sit with them and fold their wings round each other, filling in that which is between them and between the lowest heaven. When [the people in the gathering] depart, [the angels] ascend and rise up to heaven." He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then Allah (mighty and sublime be He) asks them - [though] He is most knowing about them: ‘From where have you come?’ And they say: ‘We have come from some servants of Yours on Earth: they were glorifying You (Subhana llah), exalting you (Allahu akbar), witnessing that there is no god but You (La ilaha illa llah), praising You (Al-Hamdu lillah), and asking [favours] of You.’ He says: ‘And what do they ask of Me?’ They say: ‘They ask of You Your Paradise.’ He says: ‘And have they seen My Paradise?’ They say: ‘No, O Lord.’ He says: ‘And how would it be were they to have seen My Paradise!’ They say: ‘And they ask protection of You.’ He says: ‘From what do they ask protection of Me?’ They say: ‘From Your Hell-fire, O Lord.’ He says: ‘And have they seen My Hell-fire?’ They say: ‘No.’ He says: ‘And how would it be were they to have seen My Hell-fire!’ They say: ‘And they ask for Your forgiveness.’" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then He says: ‘I have forgiven them and I have bestowed upon them what they have asked for, and I have granted them sanctuary from that from which they asked protection.’" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "They say: ‘O Lord, among then is So-and-so, a much sinning servant, who was merely passing by and sat down with them.’" He (the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "And He says: ‘And to him [too] I have given forgiveness: he who sits with such people shall not suffer.’"

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, at-Tirmidhi, and an-Nasa'i).

Hadith Qudsi 15:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah the Almighty said:

‘I am as My servant thinks I am (1). I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed."

(1) Another possible rendering of the Arabic is: ‘I am as My servant expects Me to be.’ The meaning is that forgiveness and acceptance of repentance by the Almighty is subject to His servant truly believing that He is forgiving and merciful. However, not to accompany such belief with right action would be to mock the Almighty.

It was related by al-Buhkari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 16:

On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), among the sayings he related from his Lord (glorified and exalted be He) is that He said:

"Allah has written down the good deeds and the bad ones." Then He explained it [by saying that] "he who has intended a good deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as from ten good deeds to seven hundred times, or many times over. But if he has intended a bad deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed."

It was related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Hadith Qudsi 17:

On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord (may He be glorified) is that He said:

"‘O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you. O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and you will not attain benefiting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself.’"

It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah).

Hadith Qudsi 18:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) will say on the Day of Resurrection:

‘O son of Adam, I fell ill and you visited Me not.’ He will say: ‘O Lord, and how should I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say: ‘Did you not know that My servant So-and-so had fallen ill and you visited him not? Did you not know that had you visited him you would have found Me with him? O son of Adam, I asked you for food and you fed Me not.’ He will say: ‘O Lord, and how should I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say: ‘Did you not know that My servant So-and-so asked you for food and you fed him not? Did you not know that had you fed him you would surely have found that (the reward for doing so) with Me? O son of Adam, I asked you to give Me to drink and you gave Me not to drink.’ He will say: ‘O Lord, how should I give You to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say: ‘My servant So-and-so asked you to give him to drink and you gave him not to drink. Had you given him to drink you would have surely found that with Me.’"

It was related by Muslim.

Hadith Qudsi 19:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

‘Pride is My cloak and greatness My robe, and he who competes with Me in respect of either of them I shall cast into Hell-fire.’"

It was related by Abu Dawud (also by Ibn Majah and Ahmad) with sound chains of authority. This Hadith also appears in Muslim in another version.

Hadith Qudsi 20:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"The gates of Paradise will be opened on Mondays and on Thursdays, and every servant [of Allah] who associates nothing with Allah will be forgiven, except for the man who has a grudge against his brother. [About them] it will be said: ‘Delay these two until they are reconciled; delay these two until they are reconciled.’"

It was related by Muslim (also by Malik and Abu Dawud).

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The Great and the Glorious Lord said (to angels): Whenever My bondsman intends to commit an evil, do not record it against him, but if he actually commits it, then write it as one evil. And when he intends to do good but does not do it, then take it down as one act of goodness, but if he does it, then write down ten deeds (in this record).`

Sahih Bukhari:-Volume 9, Book 93, Number 624:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "Your stay (in this world) in comparison to the stay of the nations preceding you, is like the period between 'Asr prayer and the sun set (in comparison to a whole day). The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted on it till midday and then they were unable to carry on. And they were given (a reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted on it till 'Asr Prayer and then they were unable to carry on, so they were given la reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then you were given the Qur'an and you acted on it till sunset, therefore you were given (a reward equal to) two Qirats each. On that, the people of the Scriptures said, 'These people (Muslims) did less work than we but they took a bigger reward.' Allah said (to them). 'Have I done any oppression to you as regards your rights?' They said, "No." Then Allah said, 'That is My Blessing which I grant to whomsoever I will.' "

Nothing ascends to Allah except good

Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "If somebody
gives in charity something equal to a date from his honestly earned
money--for nothing ascends to Allah except good--then Allah will take
it in His Right (Hand) and bring it up for its owner as anyone of you
brings up a baby horse, till it becomes like a mountain." Abu Huraira
said: The Prophet. said, "Nothing ascends to Allah except good."

Allah is Nearest with His slave

Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "Allah says: 'I
am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what
he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If
he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he
remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is
better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one
cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a
distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to
Me walking, I go to him running.' "

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 502

Sahih Bukhari   (Volume 2, Book 21, Number 244) :-
Narrated Samura bin Jundab (radiallaho unho):
The Prophet (sallalaho alaihi wasallam) said in his narration of a dream that he saw, "He whose head was being crushed with a stone was one who learnt the Quran but never acted on it, and slept ignoring the compulsory prayers."

Sahih Bukhari   (Volume 3, Book 43, Number 637) :-
Narrated 'Aisha (radiallaha anha):
The Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) said, "The most hated person in the sight of Allah is the most quarrelsome person."

Sahih Bukhari   (Volume 2, Book 24, Number 504) :-
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaho unho):
The Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) said, "Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are:
(1)   A just ruler;
(2)   A young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood),
(3)   A man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque);
(4)   Two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only;
(5)   A man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah;
(6)   A person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity).
(7)   A person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears."

Sahih Bukhari   (Volume 2, Book 21, Number 276):-
Narrated Aisha (radiallaho anha):
The Prophet (sallalaho alahi wasallam) never missed four Rakat before the Zuhr prayer and two Rakat before the Fajr prayer.

Sahih Bukhari   (Volume 2, Book 24, Number 486):-
Narrated Abu Huraira (radiallaho unho):
Allah's Apostle (salallaho alaihi wasallam) said, "Whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the zakat of his wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made like a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two black spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure.' " Then the Prophet recited the holy verses:-- 'Let not those who withhold . . .' (to the end of the verse). (3.180).

Allah's Apostle said, "When the Adhan is pronounced Satan takes to his heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear the Adhan. When the Adhan is completed he comes back and again takes to his heels when the Iqama is pronounced and after its completion he returns again till he whispers into the heart of the person (to divert his attention from his prayer) and makes him remember things which he does not recall to his mind before the prayer and that causes him to forget how much he has prayed."

Once Allah's Apostle came to me in the morning, and a man among us said, "Where is Malik bin Ad-Dukhshun?" Another man from us replied, "He is a hypocrite who does not love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet said, "Don't you think that he says: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, only for Allah's sake?" They replied, "Yes" The Prophet said, "Nobody will meet Allah with that saying on the Day of Resurrection, but Allah will save him from the Fire."

'Abdullah bin 'Amr, may Allah be pleased with them, reported:
We returned from Mecca to Medina with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him), and when we came to some water on the way, some of the people were in a hurry at the time of the Afternoon Prayer and performed ablution hurriedly; and when we reached them, their heels were dry, no water had touched them. The Prophet (may peace be upon him) said: Woe to (dry) heels from Hell-Fire. Make your ablution thorough and perfect (Sahih Muslim)

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: The Prayer of none among you will be accepted in a state of impurity till he performs ablution. (Sahih Muslim)

'Uthman bin 'Affan's Hadith, may Allah be pleased with him.
He called for ablution water and this is how he performed the ablution. He washed his hands thrice. He then rinsed his mouth and cleaned his nose with water (three times). He then washed his face three times, then washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then washed his left arm like that, then wiped his head; then washed his right foot up to the ankle three times, then washed his left foot like that, and then said: I saw Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) perform ablution like this ablution of mine. Then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He who performs ablution like this ablution of mine and then stood up (for the Prayer) and offered two rak'ahs of the Prayer without allowing his thoughts to be distracted, all his previous sins are expiated. (Sahih Muslim)

'Uthman's Hadith, may Allah be pleased with him.
Abu Anas reported that 'Uthman performed ablution at Maqa'id and maintained: Should I not show you the ablution performed by Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)? And he then washed (the different parts of his body) three times. (Sahih Muslim)

Resurrection."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 566

Allah's Wish and Will

Narrated by Anas (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "Whenever
anyone of you invoke Allah for something, he should be firm in his
asking, and he should not say: 'If You wish, give me...' for none can
compel Allah to do something against His Will."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 556

Volume 8, Number 573:
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet(salla llahu alayhi wa sallam)
said,

"None will enter Paradise but will be shown the place he would have
occupied in the (Hell) Fire if he had rejected faith, so that he may
be more thankful; and none will enter the (Hell) Fire but will be
shown the place he would have occupied in Paradise if he had faith,
so that may be a cause of sorrow for him."

(sahih Bukhari)

Talbiya

Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar(Radhiallaho anho):
The Talbiya of Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) was
'Labbaika Allahumma labbaik, Labbaika la sharika Laka labbaik, Inna-l-
hamda wan-ni'mata Laka walmu Lk, La sharika Laka' (I respond to Your

Excellence of Talbiyah

Narrated by Jabir(Radhiallaho anho):
The Talbiya of Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)

Ihram

Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar(Radhiallaho anho):
A man asked, O Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)! What
kind of clothes should a Muhrim wear?" Allah's Apostle replied, "He
should not wear a shirt, a turban, trousers, a headcloak or leather
socks except if he can find no slippers, he then may wear leather
socks after cutting off what might cover the ankles. And he should
not wear clothes which are scented with saffron or Wars (kinds of
Perfumes) . "

He Who Dies Without Performing Obligatory Hajj

Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (Radhiallaho anho):
A woman from the tribe of Johainah came to Allah's Messenger
(sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam and said: "My mother had vowed to
perform Hajj but she died before fulfilling her vow, should I perform
Hajj on her behalf? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Yes,
perform Hajj on her behalf. Would you not pay off any debts your
mother might have left behind upon her death? Pay off what you owe to
Allah, for He is most deserving of settlement of His debt."

(Sahih Bukhari)

THE HAJJ OF THE PROPHET (Peace Be Upon Him): A Detailed Account

Muslim reports: "Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaibah and Ishaq bin Ibrahim told
us that Hatem bin Isma'il al-Madani reported of Ja'far bin Mohammad
and he of his father, saying, 'We visited Jabir bin Abdullah (he was
blind) and he began inquiring about the people (who had come to see
him) till it was my turn. I said: "I am Mohammad ibn Ali ibn
Hussein." He placed his hand on my head and opened my upper button
and then the lower one, and then placed his hand on my chest (in
order to bless me). I was during those days a young boy, and then he
said: "You are welcome, my nephew. Ask whatever you want to ask." I
asked him a question but it was time for prayer. He stood up covering
himself in his mantle. Whenever he placed its ends upon his shoulders
they slipped down because it was short (in size). Another mantle was,
however, Iying on the clothes rack nearby (and he put it on) and led
the prayer. I said to him: "Tell me about the Hajj of the Prophet
(peace be upon him)." He held up his nine fingers and said: "The
Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed in Madinah for nine years but did
not perform Hajj. Then, in the tenth year he made a public
announcement to the effect that Allah's Messenger was about to
perform the Hajj. A large number of people came to Madinah, and all
of them were eager to emulate the Prophet (peace be upon him) and
follow his actions.
"We set out with him until we reached Dhul-Hulaifah, where Asma
bint 'Umais gave birth to Mohammad ibn Abi Bakr. She sent a message
to the Prophet (peace be upon him) asking him: "What should I do?" He
said, "Take a bath, bandage your private parts and put on ihram.
"The Prophet (peace be upon him) then prayed in the mosque and then
mounted al-Qaswa (his she-camel) and it stood erect with him on its
back at al-Baida. As far as I could see in front of me, behind me, on
my right and on my left, I saw riders and pedestrians. The Messenger
of Allah (peace be him) was prominent among us and the (revelation)
of the Qur'an was descending upon him, and it is he who knows (its
true) interpretation. Whatever he did, we also did.
He pronounced the Oneness of Allah (saying): Labbaika Allahumma
labbaik labbaika la sharika laka labbaik, innal hamda wan-ni'mata
laka wal mulk, la sharika lak (O Allah! I hasten to You. You have no
partner. I hasten to You. All praise and grace is Thine and the
Sovereignty too; You have no partner). And the people also pronounced
this talbiyah which they pronounce today. The Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) did not disapprove of anything in it, but he
adhered to his own talbiyah.
Jabir said: "We did not have any other intention but that of Hajj
only, being unaware of the 'Umrah, but when we came with him to the
House (of Allah), he touched the Black Stone (Hajar al Aswad) and
made seven circuits, running three of them and walking four. Then
going to the Station of Ibrahim, he recited: "And adopt the Station
of Ibrahim as a place of prayer.'' (Qur'an 2.125) He stood at a place
where the Station (of Ibrahim) was between him and the House. There
he prayed two rak'ahs reciting Surah Al-lkhlas, and Surah Al-Kafirun.
He then returned to the Black Stone (Hajar al A.sl~ad) and kissed it.
Then he went out of the gate to Safa, and as he approached it he
recited: "Al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the signs appointed by
Allah," (Qur'an 2.15) (adding:) I begin with what Allah began. He
first mounted Safa until he saw the House, and facing Qiblah he
declared the Oneness of Allah and glorified Him and said: La ilaha
illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulk wa lahul hamd, wa
huwa 'ala kulli sha'in qadeer, la ilaha illallahu wahdahu anjaza
wa'dahu, wa nasara 'abdahu, wa hazamal ahzaba wahdah (There is no God
but Allah, One, He has no partner. His is the Sovereignty, to Him
praise is due, and He is Powerful over everything. There is no God
but Allah alone, Who fulfilled His promise, helped His servant and
routed the confederates alone").
He said these words three times making supplications in between. He
then descended and walked towards Marwah, and when his feet touched
the bottom of the valley, he ran; and when he began to ascend, he
walked till he reached Marwah. There he did as he had done at Safa.
"When it was his last round of Marwah he said: 'If I had known
beforehand what I have come to know afterwards, I would not have
brought sacrificial animals and would have offered it as an 'Umrah.
So, he among you who has not the sacrificial animals with him should
put off ihram and treat it as an 'Umrah. Suraqa ibn Malik ibn Ju'tham
got up and said, 'Messenger of Allah, does it apply to the present
year, or does it apply forever? Thereupon the Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) intertwined the fingers (of one hand) into
another and said twice: 'The 'Umrah has become incorporated in the
Hajj,' (adding): 'No, but forever and ever.'
"Ali came from Yemen with the sacrificial animals for the Prophet
(peace be upon him) and found Fatimah (Allah be pleased with her) to
be one among those who had put olf ihram. put on dyed clothes, and
had applied kuhl*. Ali showed diiapproval of it, whereupon she
said: 'My father has commanded me to do this.' (The narrator) said
that Ali used to say in Iraq: 'I went to the Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) showing annoyance at Fatimah for what she had
done, and asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding what she
had narrated from him, and told him that he was angry with her,
whereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'She has told the
truth; she has told the truth.'
"(The Prophet then asked Ali): 'What did you say when you put on
ihram?' I (Ali) said: 'O Allah, I am putting on ihram for the same
purpose as Your Messenger has put it on.' Thereupon the Prophet
(peace be upon him) told him, 'I have with me sacrificial animals, so
do not put off the ihram.'
"(Jabir) said: 'The total number of those sacrificial animals brought
by Ali from Yemen and of those brought by the Prophet (peace be upon
him) was one hundred. All the people except the Prophet (peace be
upon him) and those who had with them sacrificial animals, put off
ihram and got their hair clipped. When it was the day of Tarwiya (8th
of Dhul-Hijjah) they went to Mina and put on the ihram for Hajj and
the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) rode and led there, the
noon, afternoon, sunset, 'Isha and dawn prayers. He then waited a
little till the sun rose, and commanded that a tent of hair should be
pitched at Namira.
"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then set out and the
Quraish did not doubt that he would halt at Al-Mash'ar Al-Haram (the
sacred site) as the Quraish used to do in the pre-Islamic period. The
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), however, passed on till he
came to 'Arafah and he found that the tent had been pitched for him
at Namira. There he got down till the sun had passed the meridian; he
commanded that al-Qaswa be brought and saddled for him. Then he came
to the bottom of the valley, and addressed the people saying: Verily
your blood, your property are as sacred and inviolable as the
sacredness of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this town
of yours.
Behold! Everything pertaining to the Days of Ignorance is under my
feet, and completely abolished. Abolished are also the blood-revenges
of the Days of Ignorance. The first claim of ours on blood-revenge
which I abolish is that of the son of Rabi 'a ibn al-Harith, who was
nursed among the tribe of Sa'd and killed by Hudhail. And the usury
of the pre-Islamic period is abolished, and the first of our usury I
abolish is that of 'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib, for it is all
abolished.
Fear Allah concerning women! Verily you have taken them on the
security of Allah, and intercourse with them has been made lawful
unto you by word of Allah. You too have rights over them, in that
they should not allow anyone to sit on your bed whom you do not like.
But if they do that, you can chastise them but not severely. Their
rights upon you are that you should provide them with food and
clothing in a fitting manner.
I have left among you the Book of Allah, and if you hold fast to it,
you will never go astray. And you will be asked about me (on the Day
of Resurrection), (now tell me) what would you say? They (the
audience) said: "We will bear witness that you have conveyed (the
message), discharged (the ministry of Prophethood) and given wise
(sincere) counsel." He (the narrator) said: "He (the Holy Prophet)
then raised his forefinger towards the sky and pointing it at the
people (said): 'O Allah, be witness. O Allah be witness,' saying it
thrice' ."
"Then adhan was pronounced and later on iqama and the Prophet (peace
be upon him) led the noon prayer. Then another Iqama was pronounced
and the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the afternoon prayer and he
observed no other prayer in between the two. (This proves the
validity of joining Zuhr and 'Asr prayer on this day, at this place.
There is consensus on it, but there is disagreement as to its cause.
Abu Hanifah and some Shafi'i scholars hold that it is a part of Hajj,
but the majority of Shafi+i scholars hold it is due to journey) The
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then mounted his camel and
came to the place where he was to stay. He made his she-camel, al-
Qaswa, turn towards the rocky side, with the pedestrian path Iying in
front of him. He faced the Qiblah, and stood there until the sun set,
and the yellow light diminished somewhat, and the disc of the sun
totally disappeared. He made Usama sit behind him, and pulled the
nosestring of Qaswa so forcefully that its head touched the saddle
(in order to keep her under perfect control), and pointing out with
his right hand, advised the people to be moderate (in speed)
saying: "O people! calmness, calmness!" Whenever he passed over an
elevated tract of land, he slightly loosened the nose-string of his
camel till she climbed up. This is how he reached al-Muzdalifah."
"There he led the evening and 'Isha prayers with one adhan and two
iqamas and did not glorify (Allah) in between them (i.e. he did not
observe supererogatory rak 'ahs between Maghrib and 'Isha prayers).
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then lay down til1 dawn
and offered the dawn prayer with an adhan and iqama when the morning
light was clear. He again mounted al-Qaswa, and when he came to Al-
Mash'ar Al-Haram, he faced Qiblah, and supplicated to Allah,
Glorified Him, and pronounced His Uniqueness and Oneness, and kept
standing till the daylight was very clear.
"He then went quickly before the sun rose, and seated behind him was
Al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas, who wa.s a man with beautiful hair, fair
complexion, and handsome face. As the Messenger of Allah (peace be
upon him) moved on, a group of women riding camels was also passing.
Al-Fadl began to look at them. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon
him) placed his hand on Al-Fadl's face who then turned his face to
the other side, and began to look, and the Messenger of Allah (peace
be upon him) turned his hand to the other side and placed it on Al-
Fadl's face. He again turned his face to the other side till he came
to the bottom of Muhassir. He urged her (al-Qaswa) a little, and,
following the middle road, (This proves that it is sunnah to follow a
different road on the way back from Arafah than the one taken while
going toward it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) went by the Dab road
to Arafah. Similarly he used to take different routes going to or
coming back from 'Eid prayers) which comes out at the greatest
Jamarah, he came to the Jamarah which is near the tree. At this he
threw seven small pebbles, saying, 'Allahu Akbar' while throwing
every one of them in a manner in which the small pebbles are thrown
(holding them with fingers) and this he did while at the bottom of
the valley. (That is, he stood there at a place where Mina, Arafah
and Al-Muzdalifah were on his right, and Makkah on his left side)
"He then went to the place of sacrifice, and sacrificed sixty-three
(camels) with his own hand. He shared the remaining camels with Ali,
who sacrificed them. He then commanded that a piece of meat from each
sacrificed animal be put in a pot. When it was cooked, both of them
(the Prophet and Ali) ate some of it and drank its soup.
"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) again rode and came to
the House (of Allah), where he performed Tawaf Al-Ifadah and oftered
the Zuhr prayer at Makkah. He came to the tribe of 'Abd al-Muttalib,
who were supplying water at Zamzam, and said: 'Draw water, O
Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib; were it not that people would usurp this right
of supplying water from you, I would have drawn it along with you.'
So they handed him a bucket and he drank from it."
The scholars said: "This hadith is one of its kind. It contains lots
of valuable information." Al-Qadi 'Iyad said: "Many scholars have
spoken (and written) at great length about the legal injunctions
contained in this hadith." Abu Bakr ibn Al-Mundhir has listed a large
part of these identifying about one hundred and fifty injuctions. He
observes that if he had analysed more closely this number would
almost double.
The scholars said: This hadith indicates that for the women giving
birth to a child or having monthly periods it is sunnah - and much
more so for others - to take a bath when they intend to perform Hajj
or 'Umrah. It also teaches us that the women who are menstruating or
are still in their confinement after childbirth, should clean
themselves properly, cover their private parts with a piece of
cotton, then declare their ihram. It also indicates that ihram must
be declared after offering either a fard or a supererogatory prayer.
After declaring ihram one should utter talbiyah loudly and preferably
use the same words as used by the Prophet (peace be upon him).
However, there is no harm in adding similar phrases as 'Umar did: "O
Allah! I answer Your call, You Who gives blessings and good favors. I
answer Your call fearing You, and wishing Your favor."
This hadith also indicates that a pilgrim must first come to Makkah
where one must perform circumambulation of arrival in Makkah (Tawaf
qudoom), and touch the Black Stone--if possible--and make the first
three rounds running, while making the other four walking at normal
speed. The running is done around the Ka'bah except between the
Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone.
After making the Tawaf one must go to the Station of Ibrahim (peace
be upon him) and recite the verse: "Take the Station of Ibrahim as a
place for prayer." Then standing there, with the Station of Ibrahim
between him and the Ka'bah, he should pray two rak'ahs reciting after
Al-Fatihah, Surah Al-Kafirun in the first rak'ah, and Surah Al-lkhlas
in the second rak'ah. This hadith also indicates that touching the
Black Stone again prior to leaving the Sacred Mosque is recommended
(if possible), just as one did upon entering it. There is consensus
among the scholars that touching (kissing) the Black Stone is sunnah.
After that, one must make Sa'i and for this purpose go to mount Safa.
climb it, face the Ka'bah and make supplications three times to
Allah. Then. one must climb down and walk toward Marwah, while
jogging in the marked area called bainal milain between Safa and
Marwah every time one passes this area during the seven rounds not
just in the first three rounds as in Tawaf. On reaching Marwah one
should climb it just as one climbed Safa, make supplications, and
make remembrance.
Completion of all these rites will complete one's 'Umrah. Now one
should either shave one's head or clip some of one's hair to get out
of the state of ihram. This is precisely what the Companions of the
Prophet (peace be upon him) did when the Prophet (peace be upon him)
commanded them to change their Hajj to 'Umrah. As for the pilgrim who
is combining Hajj and 'Umrah, he must not shave or clip his hair, but
should remain in his state of ihram.
On the 8th of Dhul-Hij jah. those who had put off their ihram after
making 'Umrah, should again put on ihra77l to perform pilgrimage, and
then head to Mina with those who combine Hajj and 'Umrah. It is
sunnah to offer the five daily prayers in Mina and to spend the night
of the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah there.
It is also sunnah not to leave Mina for 'Arafah until after the
sunrise, and not to enter 'Arafah until the sun begins to decline,
and after ot'fering both Zuhr and 'Asr prayers, which the Prophet
(peace be upon him) offered at Namira which is not a part of 'Arafah.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not enter his quarters at 'Arafah
until after otfering Zuhr and 'Asr prayers. Moreover, it is also
sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to offer some
supererogatory (nawafil) prayers in between these two prayers.
The imam should give a sermon before the prayer, which is one of the
sunnah sermons in pilgrimage. The second sermon is given by the imam
on the 7th of Dhul-Hijjah after Zuhr prayer in the Ka'bah. The third
of these sunnah sermons is delivered on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, the
day of slaughtering. And the fourth sermon is given on the day the
people leave (yawm an-nafr)--the 11th day of Dhul-Hijjah.
This hadith also contains some important manners and etiquette for
performing Hajj and 'Umrah:

2.      It is better to spend the time at 'Arafah riding one's mount.
3.      It is better to stand by the rocks or close to them as the
Prophet (peace be upon him) did.
4.      One should face Qiblah while in 'Arafah.
5.      One must stay at one's quarters in 'Arafah until sunset.
6.      One should make supplications to Allah, raising one's hands
to one's chest, and after the sunset calmly and quietly
leave 'Arafah. And if one is in a leading position one should ask
others to do likewise.
7.      Upon arriving at Al-Muzdalifah, one should combine Maghrib
and 'Isha prayers with one adhan and two iqamahs.
8.      One may not offer any nawafil prayers in between these two
prayers. There is consensus among Muslim scholars about combining
these two prayers. They differ, however, concerning the reason for
it. Some claim that it is a part of the rites of the
