 Do Muslims Hate West?
Conspiracies against Islam

We can define West in many ways looking at its geographical, cultural and civilizational dimensions. Representing primarily the Western Hemisphere of the world, at the conceptual level, the principles of secularism, individualism, liberalism and nationalism found any where represent the

This Western leaderships fears of Islam are so deep, and such intense is its desire to hold onto a false prosperity maintained on others’ wealth, that it is worth noting what kind of conspiracies it spins around the Muslim people and their real leadership?

First, the West has an ongoing assault on the Islamic culture by calling it inferior, outmoded, medieval, a product of a peculiar socio-economic structure and history. In short, it alleges that Islam replicates the past and thus is not contemporary.

Second, to create and control information environment through electronic media, books and newspapers. This is designed at developing a secular mindset sympathetic to the West.

Third, to build an educated class of people who should take the West as their model and thus turn them against their own people and their value system.

Fourth, encourage value-free, liberal education so that the Muslim society could be integrated with the Western world.

Fifth, install client regimes in Muslim societies to achieve the twin objectives of containing the Islamic movements and keeping their people poor. For the latter, the West uses World Bank and International Monetary Fund to cripple economies and thus control them.

Professor Noam Chomsky (1993), an American by definition, says that:

"The IMF constraints, which impose free-market economy, demands no food subsidies, no protection for domestic industries ... those devices suffice to ensure that the wealthy and the privileged run the show and it maintain the two-tiered societies that are regarded as necessary."

Another device that they have perfected is to create debt crisis in Muslim countries by lending loans and by manipulating local currencies in order to create artificial demand for dollar. For example, there was a free-floating fund of $130 bn. called ‘casino money’ in 1993 alone that was invested in stock markets all over the world creating artificial booms followed by sudden busts.

Sixth, where repression fails to contain the Islamic movement, efforts are made to carry a campaign of sleaze against its leadership, putting it up as incompetent, not in tune with time, dogmatic, retrogressive and obscurantist. In this continual exercise, the secularists and the client regime find themselves in perfect league against the Islamic activists. Lately, because of the type of rise of the Islamic movements as in Algeria and elsewhere, a new approach is being developed. The basic line is:

    • Do not fight the Islamic movements so openly, for it will widen their appeal.
    • Adopt Islam at the cosmetic level with the governmental stress on rituals, visiting the ‘shrines’ in the full glare of the media to convey the client regimes’ religiosity, using media for meaningless so-called ‘Islamic’ programs. This they think will erode the Islamic appeal by excessive exposure and at the same time convincing the masses of their rulers’ pretension to Islam.
    • To dilute people’s romance with Islam, accommodate the ‘Islamists’ in the government. Make sure they work within the system. This will make them work under limitation and thus help reveal their incompetence. At the same time, it will force them ‘to compromise their abstract principles in the direction of reality.’
    • Once they become part of the system by inclusion, they will no longer ‘represent something special but will start to resemble other political parties with their same strengths, weaknesses ... and even corruption.’
    • Help client regimes to establish good governance so that Islamists are denied fuel for their call for Islamic change.

That being the Western attitude in brief, it should not be difficult to understand why it is being hated in the Islamic World. Those who pose the question, why? need to look at these basic causes and decide about restructuring of their policy objectives. Muslims will be too happy to initiate a constructive dialogue and cooperative friendship.
