A DIRE WARNING!
Allah warns man in the Qur'aan never to become
boastful of his ingenuity which enabled him to build lofty ships that conquer
the oceans and travel from one corner of the earth to another because his
versatile brain is also a gift of Allah given to him out of His Grace, but to
remember that, no matter how sturdy the vessels he designed, how well built and
how well equipped, how effectively powered and how expertly navigated, how
cautiously controlled and how skilfully manoeuvred, they will always be at the
mercy of the elements, the strength of the waves, the direction of the winds,
the whims of the whirlpools, the ferocity of the storms, the chaos of the
doldrums, - beyond the control of man but subservient to none but their Lord!
When the tide turns against the ship, the waves heave and toss it around as if
it were a toy built of straw, the oceanic winds rage and drive it off course,
the hapless traveller goes down on his knees, begging His Lord for deliverance,
in humble submission to His will and in total surrender to His Might, no longer
the innovator, no longer the engineer, no longer the navigator
