What happened

What happened to those days when we lived and died for Allah

The days when islam was our number one priority

When life was merely a test of faith, there was no room for anxiety

When our trust we placed in Allah the almighty

When our homes were sparse and bellies two thirds empty

What happened to the love we had for each other

The respect and kindness we showed one another

 

Today we see the tables have turned

Our only concern is how much we earn

What can we do to impress our piers

I must get a degree, a home and car

Invite round my friends so they can see I’ve gotten far

I must not confess how unhappy I am

That all I want is to live for Islam

 

In fear of what people will say

I will not listen to voice in my ear

Suppress the desire and forget what I want

This life comes first and the next

The next is yet to come……
