In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

There is no god but Allah, the One, having no partner with Him, His is the Sovereignty and all praise is due to Him and He is Potent over everything.  The Prophet Muhammad (saws) is His last Prophet and Messenger, may the peace and blessings be upon him, and upon his family and Sahaba and who ever followed their path till the Day of Judgment. ameen

Alsalamu'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakhatuh my dear sisters and brothers,

I pray that all is well with you and your families ameen.

I would like to share something with you all that I learned about the Liar.  This, in my humble opinion, would be an excellent subject to also discuss with your children. Allahualim.  I have posted this in an all sisters community, and felt that the brothers could benefit as well, so I am posting here.

First off, I am not a scholar, do not pretend to be, and ask ALLAH to forgive my errors, and anything I add or take away from His Haqq ( Truth), for Allah (swt) is Al-Haqq.

What I am sharing would be my understanding, and my own opinion.  However, I will display ayah and hadeeth that related to this very subject, InshaAllah.  This post will be very long, as I tried to post as many ayah from the Noble Quran and Hadeeth as I could find.

What made me even want to seek knowledge on this subject, was the fact one of my children told a lie to me, and for this child it was not the norm, he is one who respects his parents and siblings, and other adults.  He would usually tell us , no matter what, anything, even it he felt he would get scolded.  SubhanaAllah.

It nearly broke my heart to hear him tell a fib, and then I realized that we are all not perfect, and he is only a child.   Children tend to make up things, but I still wanted to "nip this in the bud" and teach him the harms of lying, as well to my other children.

I found that when a person lies, it affects the heart, and if the heart is affected with this evil deed, then the body as a whole is affected.

If a person continues to lie, he will have no friends, no one will trust him, people will flee from him. If a person tells a lie during fasting, then his fasting is not accepted. To tell a lie , while telling jokes is not good for the Muslim. Lying will bring a torment in the grave that is unimaginable! Lying destroys a person, and those who lie, are regarded as one who does NOT believe in the ayat of Allah.  authubillah!

I also found that Allah (swt) is angry with the Liar. SubhanaAllah!  And that Lying leads to the Hellfire.  SubhanaALLAH!  May ALLAH protect us from this ameen. La Hawla wala qwatta illah billah ( There is no strength or power greater than Allah). Allahualim (Allah knows best).

Below are some Ayah and Hadeeth  I found on lying:

The Noble Quran

Suran Al Imran(3) Ayah 94: If any, after this, invent a lie and attribute it to Allah, they are indeed unjust wrong-doers.

Surah an Nisa(4) ayah 50: Behold! how they invent a lie against Allah. but that by itself is a manifest sin!

Suran Al Anaam(6) ayah 21: Who doth more wrong than he who inventeth a lie against Allah or rejecteth His Sings? But verily the wrong-doers never shall prosper.

Surah Al Anaam(6) ayah 24: Behold! how they lie against themselves! But the (lie) which they invented will leave them in the lurch.

Surah Hud(11) ayah 18: Who doth more wrong than those who forge a lie against Allah. They will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied against their Lord! Behold! the Curse of Allah is on those who do wrong!-

Surah An Nahl (16) ayah 105: It is those who believe not in the Signs of Allah, that forge falsehood: it is they who lie!

Suran TaHa (20) ayah 61: Moses said to them: "Woe to you! Forge not ye a lie against Allah, lest He destroy you (at once) utterly by chastisement: the forger must suffer failure!"

Saheeh Bukhari

Narrated 'Abdullah:

The Prophet said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar."

Volume 8, Book 73, Number 117:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "The signs of a hypocrite are three: Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; and whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and whenever he is entrusted, he betrays (proves to be dishonest)".

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 127:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)"

Volume 8, Book 73, Number 118:

Narrated Samura bin Jundub:

The Prophet said, "I saw (in a dream), two men came to me." Then the Prophet narrated the story (saying), "They said, 'The person, the one whose cheek you saw being torn away (from the mouth to the ear) was a liar and used to tell lies and the people would report those lies on his authority till they spread all over the world. So he will be punished like that till the Day of Resurrection."'

Saheeh Muslim

Book 032, Number 6306:

'Abdullah b. Mas'ud reported that Muhammad (may peace be upon him) said: Should I inform you that slandering, that is in fact a tale-carrying which creates dissension amongst people, (and) he (further) said: The person tells the truth until he is recorded as truthful, and lie tells a lie until lie is recorded as a liar.

Book 032, Number 6307:

'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Truth leads one to Paradise and virtue leads one to Paradise and the person tells the truth until he is recorded as truthful, and lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell, and the person tells a lie until he is recorded as a liar.

Saheeh Sunna Abu Dawud

Book 41, Number 4972:

Narrated Mu'awiyah ibn Jaydah al-Qushayri:

The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) said: Woe to him who tells things, speaking falsely, to make people laugh thereby. Woe to him! Woe to him!.

I pray that Allah (swt) will protect us from this very evil deed, lying.  And that what comes from our tongues would be truth ameen.

I pray that ALLAH (swt) will forgive our sins (those known and those unknown), protect us from evil, provide us with Taqwa, allow our graves to be wide with light, to protect us from adDajjal, to protect us from that which does not benefit, to help us, and allow us to live, worship and die as believers, as well as our families and all in Islam ameen.
