Academicians under fire
Don't Come to Israel!
Academicians under fire
Professors Mohmeden Ould-Mey (Indiana State University) and Ghazi Falah
(University of Akron, Ohio) are scheduled to present two papers on the
Palestinian problem at the annual conference of Association of American
Geographers (cc. 4000 participants). According to them, two days before the
opening of the conference yesterday, pro-Zionist groups have mobilized to
obstruct their presentation and to press for the removal of their papers.
The AAG has so far resisted these pressures, but they need to hear from us to
keep their cool under fire.
Please drop a note of support at:

Dear American Geographers Members,
Thank you for considering the papers being presented on the Palestinian
problem by Professor Ould-Mey and Falah. It is very important that views become
known to all Americans as they like it or not are playing a big role in the
events going on there now. Please allow these papers to be presented .
Thank You.
Sincerely,

More Michael Tarazi
on Hardball
We need more people like Michael Tarazi on Hardball. Chris Matthews seems to
be making an effort to give the Palestinian side some room to express itself
(although his sympathies lie clearly with the other side), so we need to
encourage this trend.

Dear Chris Matthews and the MSNBC staff,
Thank you for bringing Michael Tarazi on Hardball with Chris Matthews.
Segments with Michael Tarazi were refreshing and informative, and recommend that
he appear on a regular basis to represent the Palestinian point of view.
Thank You.
Sincerely,

Support Representative John Conyers, Jr.
John Conyers has repeatedly stood against the use of secret evidence and
recently visited Rabih Haddad, who was affiliated with GRF and recently detained
indefinitely by the government. The purpose of this visit was to ascertain for
himself exactly how he was treated (this truly is the definition of
compassion). He found Haddad to be in "appalling" conditions -in solitary
confinement and still unsure why he is there. Such offenses to the due process
of law should not be tolerated, and we in the Muslim community should be vocal.
John Conyers has spoken out on this issue and it is our duty to support him.

Dear Representative John Conyers, Jr.,
Thank you for speaking out against President Bush's decision to destroy the
trust of those who voted him in office. Many Arabs and Muslims in this country
supported George Bush specifically because of his stance against secret
evidence. Sept. 11 should not be used as an excuse to break this promise to his
loyal constituents. It is people like you who have spoken when many remain
silent. I want you to know that you have the support of many voting and
well-informed Muslim Americans behind you. Please keep up the good work.
Thank You.
Sincerely,

More on Conyers:
CONYERS: BUSH LIED ON SECRET EVIDENCE
In response to the Justice Department's decision to use secret evidence
against the Global Relief Foundation, Congressman John Conyers, Jr., Ranking
member of the House Judiciary Committee stated:
"The Bush Administration's decision to use secret evidence against the Global
Relief Foundation is a slap in the face of civil liberties proponents and the
thousands who supported him because of his campaign pledge to end this
unconstitutional practice.
In his October 11, 2000 presidential debate with Vice President Gore, then
Governor Bush condemned the use of secret evidence. In December 2001, a Justice
Department spokesman repeated the Administration pledge and stated: 'It was a
campaign promise by the President...We've abided by that promise.'"
Clearly, the President has reneged on his pledge by seizing millions of
dollars from U.S.-based Muslim charities without disclosing evidence to support
their allegations. Perhaps even more alarming is what appears to be the use of
secret evidence against Rabih Haddad, a prominent religious leader who has been
detained indefinitely simply because of his alleged ties to Global Relief.
I call on the President to abide by his campaign promise and to cease the
practice of gutting the very freedoms we are attempting to protect."

Dear Esteemed Association Members,
I would like to express my support and appreciation for your decision not to
send football teams to Israel at this time. Coming to Israel in these terrible
days does not only means risking your own life as well as the team member's; it
also means supporting the Israeli war crimes, assassination policy, daily
massacres and other atrocities committed day by day against the occupied
Palestinian people.
Stick to your decision in face of official Israeli pressure; I am sure many
conscious Israelis not only understand, but also support your decision. This
Association's gallant decision might be the last straw for the world community
to step in and prevent further bloodshed and maybe the forthcoming large scale
Ethnic Cleansing - the first in the 21st century. I hope that other European and
International Institutions, Artists, Scientists, Business men and women and
other well known personalities will follow in your footstep.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
