Fear

Deep inside you'll discover a hole,
A burning emptiness taking it's toll.
Not from something somebody stole,
But fear that continues to torture my soul.
If you look deep into my eyes,
You'll see the truth hidden by lies.
Smiles constantly cover my cries.
Fear inhibits me from keeping my ties.
It's not from loss or past heartaches,
Or fear of making more mistakes,
Or crying enough to fill Great Lakes,
Or fear of having to attend more wakes.
It's something few can understand.
Fear of people throughout the land.
It doesn't disappear when I take your hand,
Though that helps me to take a stand.
